Of Images...of Brands.


Today I had the privilege of attending an image and branding workshop with the San Antonio Economic Development Foundation.  Inside the room were the brightest communicators of the area, the movers and shakers...the doers!  I felt very honored.  I went into the meeting knowing the discussion would be on what we perceived the brand and image of San Antonio to be and where we wanted to take it in our future marketing efforts.  As an outsider, I looked at the city as a place of opportunity, a place I could succeed in, a place I could comfortably stay in, a place to raise a family in and of course a place I could call home.  This is my fourth week on the new job and so far the city is meeting all those expectations and more!

I hopped on the trolley and headed over to the Chamber of Commerce for the meeting.  I had planned on walking but the normally sunny San Antonio weather had other plans for me.

What a great day to be in San Antonio though.

It kinda makes you apply the same questions to yourself.  How do you perceive yourself?  Do you think others see that in you too?  If not, what steps can you take to change yourself to be more like what you want to be?  In my case I thought about how I want to be perceived, as a creative, smart, professional lady who still takes the time to dress up, put on makeup and would never wear sneakers with her dress clothes.  I've toned down my image quite a bit over the last few years, ditching the flowers in my hair for more conservative hair clips and the stranger high heels for...well, no I've kept those.  But in exchange I've started to dress more conservatively.  I know I'm the youngest person in the room in most of these meetings and I don't want to draw attention to that anymore than already is.  I've also started to listen more than I talk, which if you know me is a very hard thing for me to do.

At any rate, I look forward to the opportunities with the City of San Antonio...after all, it's official now:
