I had the pleasure of attending the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and City of San Antonio Office of Cultural Affairs Creative Economy Luncheon today at the Pearl Stables.  It was refreshing to hear the impact of creativity on the community expressed in a way your traditional non-creatives could understand: job counts and economic impact.  Aside from that, look at the creative that is all around you: your desk, your clothing, your makeup, even the cake for the office birthday.  It's all around you but rarely expressed numerically.  So here it is for San Antonio!

Some highlights from the report:

  • The Creative Industry generated $4.6 billion in economic activity in 2011
  • The Creative Industry employed 29,852 workers, earning wages of $1.1 billion
  • The leading sectors were printing, broadcasting & related activities, design & advertising, independent artists, writers, performers and performing arts
  • Printing and related activities were the largest sector in 2011, employing 10,307 workers earning wages of about $554 million and creating output worth of $2.4 billion
