Do you check out a lot of books from the McAllen Public Library, but maybe you've forgotten to return them and racked up some late fees?  No worries, MPL has teamed up with the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley for a huge food drive initiative...and you'll save some cash on those outstanding fees too!

Patrons of the McAllen Public Library system have an opportunity to help the less fortunate and help themselves out of library fines with a “Food for Fines” drive.  From December 1 through December 15, the McAllen Main Public Library (23rd & Nolana), the Lark Library branch (2601 Lark Avenue) and the Palm View Library branch (3401 Jordan Avenue) will collect non-perishable food items and the library system will waive $1 from library fines for each item donated.  Up to $10 will be waived per person.
