Wedding Reception Decor Details
After watching Ben and Leslie's wedding on Parks & Rec last night (and bawling like a baby, mind you), I decided it's been way too long and I should finally post some photos from our wedding reception! You may notice some familiar floral arrangements and colors...
The theme of our wedding was "Old Hollywood" with modern details. I wanted the sophistication and glamour of Elizabeth Taylor with really modern twists, which is akin to my personal style. I met with Cantu's Special Events in McAllen to go over the details of my wedding and what the overall look of the reception would be.
I came prepared with my Maid of Honor Emily, my Mom and my Pinterest boards to show Blanca of Cantu's Special Events. She's been in the business for years and is one of the most professional people I worked with when I was planning my wedding. We talked a bit about the look I wanted, showed her some photos and she came back to me with suggestions, as an expert. What I appreciated the most about her was her honesty. I originally wanted high floral arrangements, petals arranged neatly along the aisle of my ceremony and a big, lush looking arch, but with the logistics of my venue and the possibility of gusty Rio Grande Valley winds these things just wouldn't make sense. Still, I wanted to capture the elegance of these items without risking a floral arrangement toppling over.
I also told Blanca I wanted red, black, white and silver and absolutely NO chair covers! This was a modern affair.
When I saw the items come together I was in total awe. I'll let the photos speak for themselves:
All red centerpieces with flowers dyed to match and simple square vases, which matched the square tiers of the cake and put the modern touch on the arrangements. The tablecloths are my favorite part of the decor. We originally looked at doing something all white with black and red details, but Blanca suddenly said during our meeting, "wait! I just got these in...and you're a different kind of bride, these are perfect for you." My eyes lit up. Modern. Sophisticated. And unique.
I would also like to point out the napkins were ironed and silverware hand rolled by Blanca and her team. Attention to detail.
I don't think any pictures could ever do justice to the opulence that was our sweetheart table. Chris and I actually never wanted the table to begin with. We didn't like the idea of being on display and we wanted our first married dinner to be a private affair, so we could enjoy our first hour of being married just together. So we arrived...
And after a few pictures we abandoned the table and had dinner alone at a small table in the front yard of Casa Los Ebanos, which Cantu's Special Events also decorated for us.
Another wedding detail? Our seating chart was a collection of our favorite movies. Each table had a corresponding movie poster. Chris did all the graphic design for our wedding.
Finally our favors...
Guests took home photo strips from our photo booth and were treated to an assortment of sweets so we kept the favors simple. We ordered the black and white boxes from Oriental Tradings to match our tablecloths. The stickers were ordered from Moo.com. We actually included a full set of stickers with our wedding invitations.
Overall, I absolutely LOVED the decor at the wedding. I am pleased with the feedback we got from our guests too, most said "it's very YOU." Which is exactly what I wanted, for our personalities to be married into the decor: glam and over the top for me and simple for Chris.
